Chi Phi Recruitment

Successful recruitment is a key component to the success of our chapter. At Zeta Theta we utilize a Recruit-365 method to recruit and retain brothers that will give a lifetime of service to the chapter.

As a chapter locally and nationally we embrace year-long recruitment. You can find us at the library studying together, eating together at the dining hall, bowling, or playing football; just to name a few.
When we recruit we look for men that have already proved themselves as leaders on campus. We have brothers that are involved in all aspects of campus life, some of which include: E-board members on the Inter-Greek Council, Resident Advisors, Student Senators, Order of Omega E-board members, Student Mentors, Telecounselors and Tour Guides.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CHI PHI?

We will be organizing many recruitment events this semester, all of which you can find at the top of this page. These events include Sunday football games, poker nights, dinners at the dining and restaurants downtown, shooting pool and attending sporting events.

Minimum Requirements
To join Chi Phi you must meet the general requirements set forth by our chapter as well as the College. These requirements include:
You must have a minimum of 12 semester hours from an institute of higher education
You must be a full time student at SUNY Oneonta
First semester freshmen are not allowed to join
You must have a minimum 2.3 GPA*

*New Members for Spring 2009 must have a 2.5 GPA, as per Inter-Greek Council policy.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD
Firstly as a Rushee, we are looking for men that best exemplify the three main values of Chi Phi: Truth, Honesty, and Personal Integrity . We are also looking for men that have similar interests to the chapter. The Zeta Theta Chapter is a dynamic group of people whose interests vary widely. This is what makes us unique. We have no particular niche like other organizations, so a Rushee is encouraged to be themselves.
The Rush period is a time in which we throw events that best show the interest of the organization. Events vary from Paintball trips to Poker tournaments to Football games. As a Rushee all of these events are free to prospective members. If you are interested in becoming a Brother then we encourage you to hang out with us and meet the Brothers. All Brothers will answer any question that you may have regarding the Fraternity, Pledging, or even life at Oneonta.

BID PROCESS
After the Rush period has ended, Bids will be given out. A Bid is a formal invitation to become a member of our house. As a Bidee we encourage you to share your decision with your family. We understand that many parents have a false impression of what Fraternity life is like, and we are working hard to get that stereotype out of mainstream. If at any point during Rush or the Bidee period, your parent wishes to contact the house, they are more than welcome to. After a Bid has been given out, the Bidee has one week to either sign or reject the bid.

NEW MEMBER PROCESS
If a Bidee decides to sign the bid, they will then go through a formal pinning ceremony in which they take a pledge to work to become a Brother in Chi Phi. The Bidee then becomes a Pledge or New Member. The Pledge period lasts six weeks. Pledges are expected to attend weekly Pledge meetings in which the Pledge Educator will discuss the history of the Chi Phi Fraternity, history of the Zeta Theta Chapter, and many other ideals of Chi Phi. Pledges will also be encouraged to make bonds with their Pledge Brothers who will also be going through the Pledge Process. There is a strict no hazing policy that is followed for the entirety of the Pledge Process set forth by the College. After the Pledge Process has completed, there will be an initiation, and then the New Member will become a Brother in the Chi Phi Fraternity.
